Community Communicators graduates 81 community reporters in Colombia and the Dominican Republic

In November 2010, Community Communicators (Com2) graduated 81 new community reporters from rural regions in Colombia and the Dominican Republic.

Twenty-eight students from the Magdalena region and 24 students from the area of Sucre participated in online and on site classes held by the Corporación Politécnica Nacional de Colombia, who  simultaneously linked students and facilitators in Florida, Rhode Island, and four separate locations in Colombia.

In the Dominican Republic, 29 students traveled to Santo Domingo, where they completed a second multimedia reporting workshop to earn certificates issued by the Office of the First Lady and the University of Miami School of Communication.

Com2 graduates pledged to produce news reports about the reality of life in their communities. Their multimedia reports can be seen in their blogs and on the Sucre Digital and Magdalena Digital portals. Local mainstream media took note, celebrating the initiative as a welcome addition to local news coverage.
